Personal Tugra

Description

For my art history final I had the options of 1) Writing a research paper. 2) Creating a example of a style of art work we have studied this semester.

I choose option #2. This is a my personal Tugra.

A tugra is a monogram used by the Ottoman Sultans on official documents and as seals. In this culture writing was a high art something held in high regard, where we see calligraphy as a hobby and writing a chore.

This tugra says: Yahya bin Yahya han el-muzaffer daima.

or

John the son of John the ever victorious.

The ever victorious part is just in there to conform to the historical convention of the time that tugras where widely used.
